I bought a new 20hp honda outboard four years ago.I have a total of about 10 hours on the engine.

That is to say, it has only been functional for 10 hrs out of 4 years. Repeated trips to the dealer, phone calls to honda, independent repair shops. Nothing can keep it working. The final straw...yesterday, my son and I tried to use it.

We made it one mile in the boat before the engine died again. This time it happened in Charleston harbor. The tide was so strong we were being dragged out into the shipping lanes, and on our way to the ocean. Rescued by a kind boater.

I will not trust my family's life to this piece of garbage. Horrible engine.

Do not buy one.And no, I did not use gas with ethanol in it.

Review about: Honda Outboard Motor.

Reason of review: Damaged or defective.

My experience with Honda outboard motor has been good.I procured a used 50hp 2006 Fourstroke, other than regular maintenance, water impeller & thermostat - this has been the most reliable engine I've owned.

I have owned Mercury, Johnson and they have not even come close to Honda. There will be a day when I need a replacement and it will be a Honda outboard Fourstroke.
