Honda Marine - Crankshaft thrust washer warn out
After a measly 230 hours, the thrust washer on my 150 hp Honda gave way and my engine is dead. Yes, it is well beyond the warranty period, in time, but I don't expect a Honda to tear itself apart after 230 hrs.
According to the head mechanic at my local dealer: (1) No upgraded repair system is available for the 150 hp, like that which has been offered for the 200 hp. (2) Honda has had trouble with this, as noted above, but will not publicly acknowledge it with the 150 hp. (3) He has a commercial customer that bought two 150 hp motors and both went out with about 300 hrs on them. (4) If the engine will go out, it will happen about 300 hrs.
(5) The tolerance of the thrust washer is 0.018", max, and my engine had 0.082". (6) It will cost $8,000 to repair it. (7) He called Honda customer service and got no help. I also called, after he did so it was in their system, and was told "Off warranty.
We can't help." Customer service would not even give me a phone number of someone higher in the pecking order.
He said it would be a waste of my time. Are others having this issue?

I have the same issue with mine at 1200 hours. This engine should have gave me 3000 hours of service.
Know a lot of people locally that have had this happen with no help from honda.
Engines rendered worthless now. I'll never buy a honda product again in my life because of this.!!!!
